Interlock Device Use Information

The interlock device needs to be fitted to your vehicle as ordered by the courts/VicRoads. The vehicle does not have to be registered in your name. There are currently three providers of Interlock devices in Victoria and the cost is approximately $210 per month.

Each month you are required to take your vehicle to a service centre to have information downloaded from the interlock device. This will show how many times you have started the car and if their have been any “breaches”.

A breach is a reading of 0.02% or above and if this happens the car will not start for a period of 5 minutes There are some foods that will give a false reading but they will have dissipated after 5 minutes and the car will start.

Obviously it is best if you have no breaches during the period the interlock device is on your car. There are a number of devices on the market that can avoid you having a breach. Consider buying an easy throw away once only tester for around $5 (These are very easy to use. Just snap and blow!!) or a breathalyser. Not all breathalysers on the market are accurate. We can advise you of the best ones to look at purchasing. Just give us a call.
